Instructor Preparation

Proper preparation is always the key to success.  At Rockley Academy we provide training in all the watersports instructor pre-course requirements.

 

Powerboat Level 2

Our 2-day Powerboat Level 2 course includes basic seamanship skills such as handling the boat safely under power in a variety of conditions and you will spend time practising manoeuvres such as coming alongside and man overboard. Some high speed work will also be undertaken, generally outside the harbour. Completion of the RYA Level 2 course will enable you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence, which is a necessity for boating abroad. Powerboat Level 2 is a requirement for all RYA Instructor courses and for rescue boat duty at most sailing clubs.

You should be at least 16 years of age with experience of driving powerboats to RYA Level 1 standard

RYA Powerboat Level 2

Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 1 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 16yrs

Duration: 2 days (Thu-Fri or Sat-Sun)


 
Powerboat Level 2 Assessment

Experienced powerboat drivers can simply attend on the second day of the Powerboat Level 2 course for the assessment only. Completion of the RYA Level 2 course will enable you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence, which is a necessity for boating abroad. Powerboat Level 2 is a requirement for all RYA Instructor courses and for rescue boat duty at most sailing clubs.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

Course Code: P5 (Fri) / P7 (Sun)
Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 1 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 16yrs
Duration: 1 day (Fri or Sun)

 
Safety Boat

This course trains competent powerboat drivers in fleet rescue and the techniques required when rescuing small craft. It is useful for those wishing to assist with rescue cover at their sailing club and is also a pre-requisite for the RYA Senior Instructor course.

You should be at least 18 years of age with experience of driving powerboats to RYA Level 2 standard

RYA Safety Boat

Course Code: PS
Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 18yrs
Duration: 2 days (Sat-Sun)

 
First Aid

The principles of first aid with the emphasis on working in a water-based environment. Valid for 3 years and recognised for all RYA Instructor qualifications.

You should be at least 16 years of age
