Powerboat Instructor

We have unrivalled expertise amongst our instructors and coaches in driving and teaching in powerboats which is why we can offer a full range of powerboat courses throughout the season.

 

Powerboat Level 2

Our 2-day Powerboat Level 2 course includes basic seamanship skills such as handling the boat safely under power in a variety of conditions and you will spend time practising manoeuvres such as coming alongside and man overboard. Some high speed work will also be undertaken, generally outside the harbour. Completion of the RYA Level 2 course will enable you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence, which is a necessity for boating abroad. Powerboat Level 2 is a requirement for all RYA Instructor courses and for rescue boat duty at most sailing clubs.

You should be at least 16 years of age with experience of driving powerboats to RYA Level 1 standard

RYA Powerboat Level 2

Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 1 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 16yrs

Duration: 2 days (Thu-Fri or Sat-Sun)


 
Powerboat Level 2 Assessment

Experienced powerboat drivers can simply attend on the second day of the Powerboat Level 2 course for the assessment only. Completion of the RYA Level 2 course will enable you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence, which is a necessity for boating abroad. Powerboat Level 2 is a requirement for all RYA Instructor courses and for rescue boat duty at most sailing clubs.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

Course Code: P5 (Fri) / P7 (Sun)
Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 1 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 16yrs
Duration: 1 day (Fri or Sun)

 
Safety Boat

This course trains competent powerboat drivers in fleet rescue and the techniques required when rescuing small craft. It is useful for those wishing to assist with rescue cover at their sailing club and is also a pre-requisite for the RYA Senior Instructor course.

You should be at least 18 years of age with experience of driving powerboats to RYA Level 2 standard

RYA Safety Boat

Course Pre-Requisites: RYA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent powerboat experience, min age 18yrs
Duration: 2 days (Sat-Sun)

 
First Aid

The principles of first aid with the emphasis on working in a water-based environment. Valid for 3 years and recognised for all RYA Instructor qualifications.

Powerboat Instructor Pre-Assessment

A pre-powerboat instructor course skills assessment, this will be an assessment of personal boat handling skills. We run this course the day before the Powerboat Instructor Course, however please ensure you are up to the relevant standard prior to booking.

RYA Powerboat Instructor Pre-Assessment

Powerboat Instructor

This 3-day course trains you in the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the RYA Level 1 and 2 syllabus and is run by a RYA Powerboat Trainer. All students will practise running a number of sessions to develop personal skills and teaching ability.

This course is for experienced powerboat drivers who already hold RYA Powerboat Level 2 and First Aid

Intermediate Powerboat

Our Intermediate course concentrates on developing your boat handling skills and includes navigational and passage planning work. By the end of this course you will be expected to be able to complete a short passage by day.

This course is for experienced powerboat drivers who already hold RYA Powerboat Level 2, First Aid and a VHF licence

Advanced Powerboat

The Advanced Powerboat course covers high-speed navigation and handling of powerboats in coastal waters, it also includes a night exercise.

This course is for very experienced powerboat drivers who also hold RYA Day Skipper or knowledge to that level
